iRTU was chosen by one of the most important Spanish electrical utilities to be used in a field test of IEC60870‑5–104 RTUs with GPRS routers. The iRTU-B0D1 model was used to control compact MV substations by Ormazabal.
The iRTU-B0D1 unit was connected to an Ormazabal bay controller relay through an RS485 bus using the Procome or Modbus RTU protocols. This allowed controlling up to 8 bays per substation.
