How SCADA works

The use of Sub­sta­tion SCADA is a key point on the pow­er grid automa­tion, as well as on the util­i­ties asset man­age­ment, improv­ing its mon­i­tor­ing and con­trol capa­bil­i­ties, because of col­lect­ed data by the whole sub­sta­tion automa­tion sys­tem, like the IEDs, RTUs and SCADA. iGrid T&D has been work­ing hard on the iCon­trol design, a SCADA solu­tion for sub­sta­tion automa­tion which inte­grates any kind of exist­ing device inside the sub­sta­tion con­trol sys­tem, using I/O and com­mu­ni­ca­tion pro­to­cols, rang­ing from old ser­i­al ones to mod­ern ones, like IEC 61850. Either map­ping the exist­ing IEDs into IEC 61850, using iGW devices, or col­lect­ing direct­ly the data on the old­er pro­to­cols, like IEC60870‑5–103, DNP3 SCADA or Modbus.
