A dis­trib­uted con­trol archi­tec­ture based on iRTU tele­con­trol units com­plies with the basis of scal­a­bil­ity and mod­u­lar­ity, pro­vid­ing a com­plete solu­tion open to any tech­nol­ogy and com­mu­ni­ca­tion media. iRTU Series prod­ucts may per­form dif­fer­ent func­tions within a facil­ity based on their con­fig­u­ra­tion: they are able to oper­ate as Remote Ter­mi­nal Units (RTU), as con­cen­tra­tors of data from other devices (gate­ways) or as a BCU (Bay Con­tol Unit), com­ply­ing at all times with the required power trans­mis­sion and dis­tri­b­u­tion indus­try stan­dards.

  • The basic com­mu­ni­ca­tion con­fig­u­ra­tion for iRTU & iGW units (B0 Series) is as fol­lows:
    • (4) Ser­ial ports (2.5 kVrms iso­la­tion) with TX/RX LED indi­ca­tors:
      • - (1) Full RS232/RS422/RS485 ser­ial port, soft­ware con­fig­urable
      • - (2) Basic RS232/RS422/RS485 ser­ial ports, soft­ware con­fig­urable
      • - (1) RS422/RS485 ser­ial port (EXP422 port) soft­ware con­fig­urable, for con­nec­tion to iRTUe I/O expan­sion units.
    • (1) 10/100BaseTX Eth­er­net port (RJ45 con­nec­tor)
    • (1) USB port to con­nect periph­eral devices (USB dri­ves, print­ers, etc.)
    • (1) MGMT port (MiniUSB con­nec­tor) for local main­te­nance.
    • (1) MicroSD inter­nal slot for up to 32 Gb data stor­age.
  • iRTU mod­els are equipped with  inter­nal I/O mod­ules for direct data acqui­si­tion. Basic inter­nal I/O boards options:
    • - D1: 24 dig­i­tal inputs
    • - C1: 8 dig­i­tal inputs, 4 relay out­puts, and 2 DC cur­rent ana­log inputs.
    • - Other options upon request.
  • iGW mod­els pro­vide the same com­mu­ni­ca­tion capa­bil­i­ties as the iRTU units, but with no inter­nal I/O mod­ules.
  • The above basic con­fig­u­ra­tion may be expanded by adding dif­fer­ent com­mu­ni­ca­tion options.
    • S Series: Eth­er­net (10/100BaseTX and FX100 with RSTP and ser­ial ports)
    • M0/M1 Series: built-in 3G/GSM/GPRS modem, Eth­er­net and ser­ial ports

I/O Configuration

  • iRTU units include inter­nal I/O mod­ules. Basic model (iRTU-B0D1) is equipped with D1 I/O card (24 dig­i­tal inputs mod­ule). Other options upon request.
  • I/O capa­bil­i­ties can be expanded with iRTUe expan­sion devices. Options:
    • iRTUe-D1D1: 48 DI (Dig­i­tal Inputs)
    • iRTUe-D1R1: 24 DI (Dig­i­tal Inputs) + 8 out­put relays
    • iRTUe-D1A1: 24 DI (Dig­i­tal Inputs) + 8 AI (Ana­log Inputs, 20 mA)

Applications and Maintenance

iRTU & iGW units allow main­te­nance and con­fig­u­ra­tion tasks to be per­formed, both locally and remotely over the IP net­work. Per­for­mance of main­te­nance tasks may be accom­plished by using stan­dard soft­ware tools, e.g.:

  • Com­mu­ni­ca­tion trace dis­play: Tel­net man­ager (Hyper­T­er­mi­nal or sim­i­lar)
  • Data upload­ing or down­load­ing: FTP man­ager (Win­dows File Explorer or sim­i­lar)
  • iConf tool for con­fig­u­ra­tion and man­age­ment of iRTU/iGW units
